Kale is all of the rage these days. It can be found in smoothies, casseroles, and salads. After seeing and purchasing bags of Kale Chips I decided to make my own. I love these Healthy Kale Chips to munch on throughout the day. They are also great with drinks. They roast at a low heat which makes the leaves crisp up and intensifies the flavor of the kale. You will be amazed at how easy to make kale chips at home.
Ingredients for Healthy Kale Chips:
1 - 10 ounces of Tuscan Kale
Olive Oil Spray
Fine Sea Salt
You will also need a cookie sheet.
Time-Saving Tips: These chips can be made in advance and stored in an airtight container. Just make sure that they are completely cooled before storing them. Also, I use parchment paper when I am baking the kale because it makes for easier cleanup.
This recipe is really just to get you started making your own chips. Don't worry about the exact weight of the kale.
Let's see what we need.
Now we can make the chips.
I find that I like the finished product best when I take the time to remove most of the thick stems. It doesn't take long and you will be happy that you did so you won't end up biting into a hard stem instead of tender and crisp kale.
Once you have cut out as much of the stems as possible make sure the kale is dry. Spread on the cookie sheet and spray with the olive oil. Then sprinkle with the salt. Bake in a preheated 300-degree oven for approximately an hour and fifteen minutes. Toss a couple of times while baking.
It's ready! Now that you have made this once feel free to add some more seasonings to flavor the chips. You can use curry, Old Bay, cayenne or whatever else comes to mind. Just don't overdo it because the flavors concentrate and the kale bakes and shrinks.
These chips are perfectly crisp and you might find yourself eating the batch on your own. So plan on making extra if you want to share.
Enjoy!
