I love making Grilled Sausage and Peppers during the hot summer months. My grill does all of the work, and my kitchen stays nice and cool. But that's just a bonus; they also happen to be so delicious and so easy to prepare. I serve them with some crusty Italian bread and a salad. The recipe is easily multiplied, which makes it great for entertaining, which makes it a win-win.
Ingredients for Grilled Sausage and Peppers:
* 2 pounds Italian Sausages, sweet or hot or a combination of both kinds
1 pound mini bell peppers, cleaned and dried
3 red onions, cut into 1/4" slices a handful of fresh basil
2 tablespoons olive oil
kosher salt
black pepper
* My favorite brand of Italian sausages is PREMIO.
Time-Saving Tip: The vegetables can be seasoned and oiled in advance. Let's see what we need.
We're ready to cook.
Place the onions and peppers on either side of the same glass baking dish. Drizzle the onions with one tablespoon of oil as well as the peppers; season with salt and pepper. Toss the peppers and onions, so they are well coated with the oil.
Transfer the vegetables and sausage on a preheated grill. Turn the vegetables when grill marks appear. Take them off the grill when they are just starting to get tender. As with the peppers and onions, begin turning the sausage when grill marks appear. I like to turn them until they are done. Depending on the thickness of the sausage it should take somewhere around 15 -25 minutes
It's ready! Grilled Sausage and Peppers might be one of the easiest meals to prepare. It's one of my favorites because it's so flavorful and it's a "one-pot" meal all you need to add is bread.
Enjoy!
